How I Add Calm To My Morning Ritual

Writer's picture: Lindsay DaltonLindsay Dalton

I'm a mum of 3 spirited kids (age 11, 9 and 4)

I'd love to tell you that my mornings look peaceful and joyful but I'm all about authenticity so I will keep it real with you.

I, like almost all other mums, am often getting to 9am feeling like I've already done a full day's work!

There is one thing that does really help me though and keeps me grounded, and honestly without it I'd feel overwhelmed and frazzled.

How I add calm to my morning ritual is journaling. It's the first thing I do each morning, after making my coffee of course.

I commit each morning to writing 3 pages in my journal. It's something I've done for years and was inspired to continue when I read about 'Morning Pages' in the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.

Morning Pages is a way to get all that's swirling around your mind when you first wake up onto the paper and it is so powerful. I'm always amazed how much emerges that was just hanging around in my subconscious and it makes me feel physically and emotionally lighter.

I don't usually go back and read, it's more about the act of writing and I consider it a form of self-care.

Do you journal too? Have you downloaded my journaling guide with 10 writing prompts?

How did you get on with it, do you have the journaling bug too?
